Meeting some friends in the 1st arrondissment this weekend, I was reminded how much I love the bars in this area. Here, while the prices might be above the average, the focus is on charm, quality and class. Ambience seems to be the running theme in all of the places I've been to in this upmarket quartier. Here are a couple of my personal favourites and recommendations for a tipple in 001.

Au Caveau Montpensier, 15 Rue de Montpensier: Beautiful little bar, with steps down into the caveau. Considerable Anglophone clientele. Mind your head.
